'Why sail if you can fly?' This was our answer to Twitter’s challenge to give a number of top clients and prospects a unique experience during Sail Amsterdam.

Twitter wanted to forge a stronger connection with C-level marketeers and to bring the Twitter brand to life during a big public event. SAIL Amsterdam was the ideal opportunity to inspire marketeers and to engage the Twitter platform, in all its facets, in their social strategy.


An exclusive group of guests was invited to the helicopter hangar in Amsterdam. After presentations, the guests flew (Tweeting and Periscoping as they went) in a #BirdsEye Twitter-heli over SAIL's tall ships. In the hangar, with a festival-like decor, the guests on the ground watched live via Periscope, the new livestream app from Twitter.


As an added bonus, 500,000 visitors to SAIL Amsterdam saw the branded Twitter helicopter hovering around. The event was trending topic and had more than 1 million impressions on Twitter. The guests themselves were thrilled to bits to witness this Tweet;

"Holy shit! This was the coolest thing ever. Thanks @TwitterNL ".
